Do you prefer to drink red wine or white wine? Many wine enthusiasts enjoy both, but you may wonder which one is healthiest of the two. White wine is created with the pulp from white grapes or from skinless red grapes. The seeds and skin are removed and not used during the wine making process. Red wine is made with red grapes, including the skin. While the pulp of red grapes produce a white wine, it is the skin of the red grape that provides the color and many nutritional benefits that lack in white wine.

Red Wine

Since red wine is made using the entire grape, including the skin, it has added health benefits due to the appearance of resveratrol, which is found in the skin of the grapes and therefore absent in white wine. Health benefits of red wine include maintaining and balancing blood sugar levels, lowering cholesterol, reduces the risk of blood clots, keeps blood vessels flexible, protects your heart, fights cancer, prevents the growth of fat cells and protects cells against free radicals. Red wine is also a good source of iron and magnesium.

White Wine

Don’t give up on white wine just yet. While white wine may not be made by using the skins of the grapes, it does contain potassium, fluoride, phosphorus, nutrients and antioxidants, which offer numerous health benefits. Due to the antioxidants in white wine, it provides health benefits such as improved lung health, improved hearth health, prevention of heart disease and lower risk of lung disease.

As you can see, drinking red or white wine in moderation, about three to four times a week, can provide you with health benefits. Both wines have undergone extensive testing by scientists worldwide to confirm the health benefits they provide. The overwhelming result has shown that red wine is rated healthier than white wine. One benefit that red wine and white wine have the capability of offering is relaxation. When wine is consumed in moderation, one 5 ounce glass about three to four days a week, it provides calmness to those who are feeling stressed.
